VetEmbryo ApS is owned and operated by Jannie Spanner and Emma Lorenzen, who both have a special interest and expertise in horse reproduction.

We established VetEmbryo in the beginning of 2019 to go full time into what we are really passionate about: Advanced reproductive techniques in horses. Our great interest has always been horses and breeding. After our training as veterinarians, we respectively focused on the clinical part of advanced reproduction and the laboratory technical part. We have participated in courses and received training from some of the world’s best within our field, and acquired knowledge from experts both from the human field, from the cattle field and from the world’s best within horses.

Together we have more than 15 years of experience in the field, and feel privileged to be able to work full time with our great passion. We look forward helping you fulfill your desire for a dream foal.

The laboratory

Our laboratory was established at the beginning of 2019 and subsequently we also established a clinic room for OPU in Hellevad, 30 minutes from the German border. The laboratory and clinic facilities in Hellevad have been established with financial support from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (LAG funds).

The laboratory is fully equipped to perform in vitro fertilization. We perform the following work in the laboratory: Maturation of oocytes, fertilization of oocytes, cultivation of embryos, vitrification of embryos (in vivo and in vitro) and thawing of embryos.

Oocytes and embryos are extremely sensitive to harmful substances in the environment, so there are strict requirements for behavior and hygiene in the laboratory. The laboratory is therefore closed for outsiders.
